REDUCE OFFENDING

WHY & HOW WE HELP

We use a licence to reduce offending because....

  • 60% of people’s first interaction with the justice system is through a driving offense
  • 32 deaths last year on Hawke’s Bay roads – 33% of them didn’t have the correct licence to drive
  • Working with referrals from Work and Income, Court, Probation and Police the common denominator was no full clean licence
  • Gives people the best chance to stay out of the justice system
  • IT WORKS

RESULTS & OUTCOMES

Our Results:

  • Average 22 people out of the justice system per year because of the work we do with courts, police and probation
  • Referrals and compliance offered from local police
  • Iwi/Community Panels have been established as an alternative to court because of our work and passion
  • Offer of a reader/writer for those with learning difficulties
  • 80% engagement rate from court referrals
  • 3 people per year that have their indefinite disqualification lifted – some have been stuck in a cycle of driving while disqualified for up to 7 years
  • Supervise up to 5 people per year to clear their community probation hours

Our Outcomes:

  • Help people get out of a cycle of reoffending
  • Give people an alternative to prosecution
  • Ensure people get the real help needed to break bad cycles
  • Builds lasting relationships that help change lives
  • Reducing offending in our community
  • Give those we work with in this area connection to wider training and employment opportunities
  • Makes a licence an equitable process
